A simplified assessment of the 10-year probability of sustained bone fractures based on clinical hazard weights.
Algorithm Checklist Parameters:
- Patient Age (years)
- Previous Spontaneous or Low-Trauma Fracture
- Parent Hip Fracture History
- Chronic Glucocorticoids (eg. Prednisone ≥ 5mg/d > 3 months)
- Rheumatoid Arthritis diagnosed
- Alcohol abuse (3 or more drinks daily)
- Femoral Neck Bone Mineral Density T-Score
Primary Clinical Application:
Guides the initiation of clinical pharmacological bone protection therapy (e.g. Bisphosphonates).
