A simplified assessment of the 10-year probability of sustained bone fractures based on clinical hazard weights.

Algorithm Checklist Parameters:
  • Patient Age (years)
  • Previous Spontaneous or Low-Trauma Fracture
  • Parent Hip Fracture History
  • Chronic Glucocorticoids (eg. Prednisone ≥ 5mg/d > 3 months)
  • Rheumatoid Arthritis diagnosed
  • Alcohol abuse (3 or more drinks daily)
  • Femoral Neck Bone Mineral Density T-Score

Primary Clinical Application:

Guides the initiation of clinical pharmacological bone protection therapy (e.g. Bisphosphonates).
