A clinical decision rule to safely rule out pulmonary embolism without ordering D-Dimer test markers.

Algorithm Checklist Parameters:
  • Age ≥ 50 years?
  • Heart Rate ≥ 100 bpm?
  • SpOâ‚‚ on room air < 95%?
  • Unilateral leg swelling?
  • Hemoptysis (coughing up blood)?
  • Recent trauma or surgery (within 4 weeks)?
  • Prior history of DVT or PE?
  • Oral hormone/estrogen use?

Primary Clinical Application:

Applied to emergency department patients with a very low pre-test probability of PE to reduce testing.
